CO-FOUNDERS

Bill Chamberlain joined the faculty at Landmark School near Boston, a K-12 school for students with language-based learning differences, in 1997. He is currently the technology department head and teaches geometry, programming and thinking classes. He holds a bachelors and a masters in music and a Masters in Special Needs Education. He has worked in other diverse fields, ranging from performing in a theme park to managing a convenience store. He has been an avid game player since the 1960s, being particularly fond of Avalon Hill board games, tabletop RPGs and computer games. He remembers the first Sim City and VGA Planets being  pivotal experiences. He also co-founded a live action role-playing game.

Tripp Robbins is in his 24th year of teaching high school; he's taught at 3 different schools in as many (U.S.) states. He holds a Masters in Theater Directing and a BA in psychology. He has taught classes in writing, literature, drama, US History, pre-algebra, computer science, study skills, digital multimedia, moviemaking and psychology. He is currently coordinator for program development at Menlo School, an independent school in the San Francisco Bay area. He has been a games fiend since elementary school. He remembers playing the text-based Adventure via 150-baud accoustic modems in the 1970s when he concluded "computers are the best toys ever." He has also owned and run a critically-acclaimed live action role-playing game, and he has played many, many computer games.

 

ADVISORY BOARD

Attorney Stephen Wu’s practice focuses on data security and privacy, electronic commerce, business formation, technology and corporate transactions, intellectual property protection, and commercial litigation.  Before forming CKW, Mr. Wu founded InfoSec Law Group, PC, a practice focusing on litigation and regulatory compliance matters relating to information security and privacy laws, as well as general business and technology law matters he now handles for CKW.  He is a frequent speaker on regulatory compliance and liability issues involving secure electronic commerce and information security.  Mr. Wu was an in-house attorney with VeriSign, Inc. for almost five years, where he was in charge of the company’s worldwide policies and practices governing its digital certification secure ecommerce services.  Prior to joining VeriSign, Mr. Wu practiced with the Pittsburgh offices of Jones Day Reavis & Pogue and Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP in the areas of computer law, intellectual property, and general litigation, following a clerkship with a United States District Judge in Columbus, Ohio.  Mr. Wu was Co-Chair of the American Bar Association Information Security Committee from 2001 to 2004.  He is currently Secretary of the ABA Section of Science and Technology Law.  Mr. Wu is the author of the book Risk Management for Consumer Internet Payments (NACHA 2002) and co-author of the book Digital Signatures (RSA Press 2002), as well as co-editor of the book Information Security:  A Legal, Business, and Technical Handbook (ABA 2004).  Mr. Wu received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1988.

 

COLLABORATORS

Patrick Costello will attend Stanford University in fall, 2008 to study computer science. Already a deft programmer familiar with a variety of programming langauges, Patrick's creativity and energy are a welcome addition to the NN staff. His hard-won experience with virtual worlds will help give him context for his contributions to NN.

David Spence was a content expert and co-designer on the Bronze Blades module. He teaches science at Menlo School, an independent school in the San Francisco Bay area. A native of New Zealand, he has been teaching since 1992. David was a key member of the team that created the Bronze Blades demo module, contributing both ideas for the design of the game and details of the chemistry which is central to the module. He is working on further developing the ideas used in the module.
